The ‘Lives of the Common People Project’ was a Lottery Funded Project undertaken by Castleton and Hope Historical Societies between 2012 and 2013 to investigate where the common people of the area lived and worked between the Norman Conquest and the Civil War of 1642.

The results of the Project are summarised in Lives of the Medieval Common People in Castleton and Hope

Castleton and Hope Medieval Landscape enables visitors to explore the area via a self-guided trail. The trail leaflet and a series of audio clips were created as part of the Project and are currently available from the Castleton Historical Society Website
The original report ‘Medieval Lives in Castleton and Hope‘ is stored at the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock. In 2018 a digital version of the HLF Research Report was made available to the Hope Historical Society Website as 7 separate topic sessions.
